Getting Started

My first semester of the digital library seminar class began yesterday. We learned that one of the requirements is to maintain a blog about our digital library project work.

Unlike some (many?) of my classmates, I've never blogged before. Really, even though I have 20+ years experience as an information technology professional, I feel like I'm struggling to catch up with my classmates who are 20 years younger than me. They've grown up just knowing things, and taking them for granted, that I'm just beginning to learn. I've been saying that I'm a specialist in an obsolete technology. And I'm discovering that it's true!

Ah, well. The technology may be different, but the general principles are probably the same. I'm smart, I'm persistent, I'm detail-oriented (sometimes)... I'll get this.

So, I'm starting my very first blog.

My goal for this blog is not just to meet the requirements of the program, but to also use it to explain what I'm learning in a way that my non-techie friends and family can understand it.

Mother and Dad, Riverview and Ann Arbor and Iowa City Community of Christ, ScrapShare ladies, Gracelanders, LHS class of 78, Gerald and Viv, Tara Lynn and Steve, Bob and Ann, and all my other friends and family... this blog's for you!
